This election is being held 18 months after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government. Tight security arrangements have been made for the elections in Bangladesh. Voters are showing great enthusiasm for voting. 127 million voters are casting their votes for Bangladesh's 300 parliamentary seats. This is the first time in Bangladesh's elections that Sheikh Hasina's party, the Awami League, is abstaining from the elections. The election is likely to be a close contest between the Jamaat-e-Islami and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
