News Topical, Digital Desk : Bangladesh's International Criminal Court judge on Monday set a date for July 10 to decide whether to frame charges against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two of her top aides.

Ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah al-Mamun are accused of crimes against humanity during the uprising in July last year.

Charges will be framed on July 10

The International Criminal Court-1 (ICT-1) has set July 10 to decide whether charges will be filed against Hasina, Kamal and al-Mamun, according to the Daily Star newspaper.

The three-member court will also hear petitions filed by lawyers who have argued that the charges against their clients are baseless and should be dismissed. Hasina, Kamal and al-Mamun were charged with five crimes against humanity on June 1.

The prosecution filed formal charges against the former prime minister, former home minister, and former police chief for charges including murder, attempted murder, torture, and use of deadly weapons.

Sheikh Hasina was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment

Last Wednesday, Hasina was sentenced in absentia to six months' jail by a court in a contempt case. This is the first time the 77-year-old Awami League leader has been sentenced in a case after leaving office.

If the accused does not appear by 20th, the trial will be conducted in absentia

According to a report by the UN human rights office, nearly 1,400 people were killed between July 15 and August 15 last year when Hasina's government ordered a security crackdown on protesters.

A Dhaka court has issued summons to Hasina, her family members, and several former officials of her administration to appear in six cases of alleged corruption, including land allotments.

The trial will be held in absentia

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) prosecutor Mir Ahmad Ali Salam said the court has set July 20 as the date for hearing these six cases. If the accused do not appear in court by then, the trial will proceed in their absence.

It is mentioned in the gazette that there is no possibility of their arrest. If the accused do not appear by the next scheduled date, the trial will proceed in their absence.

Whose names are included?

The gazette also includes the names of Hasina's children Sajeeb Wazed Zay and Saima Wazed Putul, her sister Sheikh Rehana and Rehana's children British MPs Tulip Rizwana Siddiqui, Azmina Siddiqui Ruponti and Radwan Mujibur Siddiqui. Similarly, a Bangladesh court has sent former Bangladesh Law Minister Anisul Haque on a two-day remand in a case of illegal possession of arms.
