News Topical, Digital Desk : Five more Afghans living in the country after obtaining Indian passports using false addresses and documents were arrested by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) team in Kolkata on Sunday. All of them have been brought to Jabalpur.

The accused were produced in court on Sunday and remanded in police custody until February 25. Previously, the ATS had arrested three Afghans who had made fake passports and three others who had helped them, totaling six accused.

The accused were doing the business of usury

The arrested Afghans are Zia Ul Rehman, Sultan Mohammad, Raza Khan, Syed Mohammad, and Zafar Khan. These five came to India several years ago and operated as moneylenders in Kolkata. They obtained fake Indian passports through Sohbat Khan, an Afghan resident of Jabalpur.

It should be noted that the ATS had previously arrested Sohbat Khan in Jabalpur in August 2025. A fake Indian passport was recovered from him. Based on his information, Kolkata residents Mohammad Iqbal and Akbar were also arrested.

Sohbat, along with alleged Jabalpur lawyer Chandan Singh, forest guard Dinesh Garg and Mahesh Kumar Sukhdan, had also got fake Indian passports made for these three.

Took 2.5 lakhs, gave address as Jabalpur

After arriving in India, these Afghans were living in Kolkata. During this time, they learned about Sohbat, a person who made fake Indian passports. They contacted him, who charged them 2.5 lakh rupees per passport and had their fake documents prepared in Jabalpur.

In 2024, Sohbat called the five men to the city and had their photographs taken at a POPSK (Post Office Passport Seva Kendra). After verifying their documents, he sent them off. Sohbat also collected the passports from the post office and then delivered them to the five.
