News Topical, Digital Desk : According to Dr. K.K. Pandey (Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi), winter offers a plethora of nutritious food options. Vegetables and fruits abound, but this season also brings many challenges. If you suffer from diabetes or smoke, there's a risk of foot-related problems during this time. These could include problems like blackening of the toes, red spots, or tingling in the feet.

What to do if you have diabetes?

Due to the persistent accumulation of fat in the blood vessels of the toes and legs of diabetic patients, the supply of pure blood is relatively reduced. This problem is likely to worsen during winter. If necessary precautions are not taken, the toes may turn black. If you suffer from diabetes, you should try to keep your feet dry and clean.

Why does tingling occur?

If you smoke hookah, tobacco, or smoke tobacco, your toes may turn black during the cold season. Some people may experience red spots or tingling sensations in their feet, which can cause unbearable pain. In fact, the blood vessels in such people's feet become constricted. The cold winds also block blood supply. Sometimes, this problem can even lead to gangrene and wounds in the toes.

What to do if you have vasculitis?

This season can be painful for those suffering from vasculitis, an inflammation of the blood vessel walls. Blood often accumulates in the blood vessels in their feet, completely blocking the flow of pure blood. This increases the risk of losing toes. To prevent these problems, along with taking medication, one should strive to protect the feet in winter.

Women with Raynaud's disease

This is a condition associated with excessive sensitivity of the blood vessels. As soon as the feet are exposed to cold, the blood vessels begin to constrict, temporarily restricting blood flow. If this happens repeatedly, the toes become increasingly blue and red. This can eventually lead to wounds. This problem can be managed with medication and dietary precautions. Consult a doctor for this treatment.

keep these things in mind

  • Always keep your feet covered with cotton or woolen socks.
  • Do not warm your feet with an electric heater or a hot water bottle.
  • Take a walk of five to six kilometers only when the sun is out.
  • Consumption of tobacco or smoking should be stopped completely.
  • If the pain becomes unbearable and black color or black crust is seen in the legs, then definitely consult an experienced vascular surgeon.
