News Topical, Digital Desk : A woman in the United States won a lottery prize of $150,000, or approximately ₹132,130,000. The woman's actions left people astonished.
In a heartwarming gesture, a Virginia woman has donated her entire $150,000 Powerball prize to charity, according to WTVR-TV news. Carrie Edwards won the lottery on September 8. She announced her decision during a Virginia Lottery event held on Tuesday.
Why did the woman take such a decision?
Edwards said the choice was clear to him as soon as he realized he had won. "As soon as this divine blessing fell on my shoulders, I realized I should donate it all," he said. The donation will be divided among three charitable organizations that are personally important to him.
Association helps families
One of the awardees is the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, which provides support to families affected by early-stage dementia, a condition that took the life of Edwards' husband last year.
The second is Shalom Farms, a Richmond-based nonprofit where Edwards volunteers. The organization works to create a more equitable food system and address food insecurity.
The third organization is the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, which helps military families. Edwards grew up in a Navy family. She says she knows firsthand how impactful this kind of support can be. "It's very rare for winners to do what Carrie is doing here today," said a Virginia Lottery official.
