News Topical, Digital Desk : Former President Barack Obama has launched a scathing attack on the declining standards of American politics under the current Trump administration. In a recent interview, Obama described American politics under Trump's second term as a "clown show" and said that the recent rhetoric coming from the White House has disturbed most Americans.
Speaking on Brian Tyler Cohen's "No Lie" podcast, Obama addressed the controversial video that depicted him and former first lady Michelle Obama in a derogatory manner.
On Trump's refusal to apologize for the issue and calling it a mistake by an employee, Obama said, 'It's important to know that the vast majority of Americans find this behavior deeply disturbing.'
The clown show is on
Decline of Decency and Dignity Obama described the current politics on the internet media and television as a circus. He said, “There's a kind of 'clown show' going on. The truth is, there's no shame left in those who once believed that there should be decorum, courtesy, and respect for office. That's lost now.”
When Cohen questioned the "deterioration of communication" and the labeling of civilians killed during immigration operations as "domestic terrorists," Obama called it a distraction tactic from the core issues. He insisted that the vast majority of citizens still believe in decency and kindness.
Obama's warning to defenders of democracy
Taking a dig at the Republican Party's approach, Obama said they are simply trying to complicate established rules and laws, which is easier than constructive action. He warned Democrats against resorting to a Republican-style "burn and destroy" approach.
"I don't want us to ignore the truth like the other side is doing. If we fight that way, we'll lose what we're fighting for," Obama said.
could misuse financial power
Citing examples from his own tenure, he said he too could have misused military or financial power against opposing states, but that would have been against the way democracy works. Obama concluded by urging supporters not to be discouraged by this daunting challenge, as the task of defending democracy is always a little more difficult.
