Dozens of houses have collapsed and many families have been ruined. We don't want only announcements from the government, we want help on ground level- Akhilesh Yadav

The former Chief Minister, while targeting the BJP government, said that victims do not get relief just by making announcements on paper. He said that the government should compensate the victims with full sensitivity and also take quick steps towards rehabilitation. He said that the announcements of the BJP government are often far from the ground reality. Be it farmers, poor or disaster victims, everyone gets only assurances, but not relief.

Akhilesh Yadav said that in a democracy public interest and public welfare should be paramount, but the BJP government adopts a discriminatory attitude. He said that even in the past years when the state faced floods, hailstorms or drought, the government provided only paper help to the victims, while the reality was that most of the victims did not receive any relief.

In the backdrop of rising climate crisis and need for sensitivity

It is worth noting that in the second half of May, the incidents of unusually strong storms, rain and lightning are increasing continuously in North India. The Meteorological Department had already issued an alert that this time during May-June, strong winds and storms may occur due to western disturbances and local atmospheric instability. Despite this, the government's preparation was inadequate, due to which the common people had to suffer the loss of life and property.

Akhilesh Yadav has demanded from the government that immediate relief camps should be set up in every affected district, adequate compensation should be provided to the families of the deceased and proper treatment of the injured should be ensured. Also, disaster management should be strengthened for the future, so that loss of life and property can be prevented in such incidents.
