News Topical, Digital Desk : Hours after the stampede at a rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, actor Vijay's first statement has surfaced. TVK (Tamil Nadu Vettri Kazhagam) chief and actor Vijay wrote on Twitter, "My heart is broken; I am in an unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow that cannot be expressed in words."

Vijay further wrote on Instagram, “I express my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of my dear brothers and sisters who lost their lives in Karur. I pray for the speedy recovery of those receiving treatment in the hospital.”

36 people have died so far

Thirty-six people, including eight children and 16 women, died after a stampede broke out during the actor-politician's rally. Initially, reports of 31 deaths had surfaced, but the Tamil Nadu Chief Medical Officer (CMO) has now clarified that 36 people died.

Been waiting for Vijay for a long time

The seven adults who died were supporters of Vijay's political party, the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). They had been waiting for Vijay at the rally site for at least six hours. The crowd became so overwhelming that it became difficult for people to even stand.
