
News Topical, Digital Desk : A major accident was averted near the coast in Kerala. Here, about 38 nautical miles from the coast, a Liberian cargo ship suddenly tilted. Due to this, many containers loaded on the ship fell into the sea. The risk of environmental damage has increased after this incident. Officials gave information about this incident on Sunday. However, the Indian Navy and Coast Guard immediately took charge and reached the spot and started the rescue operation. All 24 people on board the ship were rescued safely. Out of these, 21 were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard while 03 were rescued by INS Sujata.
A defense public relations officer gave information about the incident on Sunday morning. He said, "Three crew members of the ship have been rescued with the help of 'INS Sujata'." He said that some more containers have fallen into the water and the ship has sunk further in the water. The risk of environmental damage is increasing due to this incident. The Indian Navy and Coast Guard are working on measures to pull the ship. He further said that another ship of the ship's owner company has reached the area for assistance.
At the same time, the Defense Public Relations Officer also said that it is being assessed whether the ship can be pulled to a safe place for which professional assessment is going on. Earlier, officials had said that 21 out of 24 crew members on the ship have been rescued. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has appealed to the people not to touch any container or oil spill that may come to the seashore. KSDMA has also asked people to immediately inform the police if they see containers or oil on the shore.
Let us tell you that the MSC ELSA-3 ship left for Kochi from Viziagam port on Friday. On Saturday (May 24) at around 1.25 pm, the ship's owner company informed the Indian authorities that its ship had tilted by 26 degrees. They had sought immediate assistance. The 24-member crew on this ship includes one Russian (captain), 20 Filipinos, two Ukrainians and one Georgian citizen. The Coast Guard has confirmed that the ship had Marine Gas Oil (MGO) and Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (VLSFO).
