News Topical, Digital Desk : Abbas Ansari News: The membership of Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party leader and Mukhtar Ansari's son Abbas Ansari has ended. He was an MLA from Mau Sadar in Uttar Pradesh. During the UP assembly elections in the year 2022, he gave a controversial statement. The matter of which went to court. On which the court sentenced him to two years imprisonment.

It is believed that now a by-election can be announced on this seat. However, if Abbas moves the High Court and a stay is imposed on the sentence, then his MLA seat can also be regained. 

According to the information, the Assembly Secretariat will issue the order shortly. Abbas Ansari is the sixth MLA in the 18th Assembly whose membership has been lost. Before this, Azam Khan, Abdullah Azam, Irfan Solanki, Vikram Saini and Ramdular Gond have lost their membership.

What is the law for MLAs getting convicted?
Let us tell you, what does the law say about the membership of MLAs or MPs after getting convicted? Section 8 of the Representation of People Act 1951 strictly states that convicted leaders, MPs and MLAs can be barred from contesting elections. They will lose their membership only if the court awards a fine or jail sentence. At the same time, their membership will be considered ineligible from the date of conviction. Convicted MLAs/MPs will be considered ineligible to contest elections for 6 years from the date of completion of the sentence.

Abbas Ansari became MLA for the first time in the year 2022
by winning the election from Mau Sadar assembly seat on a Subhaspa ticket under the Samajwadi Party-led alliance. Subhaspa is currently an ally of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government and the party (Subhaspa) president Om Prakash Rajbhar is a cabinet minister in the state. Before that, Abbas Ansari's father, Bahubali politician Mukhtar Ansari, had represented the Mau Sadar assembly seat for a long time.
