News Topical, Digital Desk : Amid efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, a video has emerged showing a small and fast-flying Ukrainian interceptor drone approaching and destroying a Russian jet-powered drone, the Shahed.

The small interceptor drone seen in the video, also known as STING, is a compact, indigenously developed system specifically designed to counter long-range Russian attack drones.

What was shown in the video?

The video, shared by Wild Hornets, the Ukrainian company behind the STING program, shows the interceptor rapidly approaching its target before colliding. The Shahed drone, modified by Russia to fly at a higher speed and altitude, collides mid-air.

What is the specialty of Sting Drone?

Ukraine is rushing to deploy these interceptor drones as Russia intensifies attacks on cities and vital energy infrastructure. Unlike traditional air-defense missiles, interceptor drones are designed to be inexpensive, modular, and disposable. Air defense missiles can cost millions or even billions of dollars.

Meanwhile, in ground conditions, technicians work quickly. Antennas and sensors are mounted on lightweight stands, monitors and control systems are removed from robust cases, and launch equipment is assembled near the front lines or vulnerable urban centers. The emphasis is on rapid deployment and flexibility, allowing operators to respond quickly to emerging threats.

Sting is the answer to Russia's drones

The STING drone's design is unique. Operators describe it as resembling a thermos flask—a slender cylindrical body optimized for speed and altitude rather than endurance. The system is designed to counter the changing profile of Russian suicide drones, which now fly faster and at higher altitudes than earlier versions.

Wild Hornets has said its interceptor is capable of reaching altitudes of up to 11 kilometers, putting it within range of the jet-powered Shahed variant used by the Russian military.

The video was released amid one of the heaviest waves of Russian airstrikes in recent months. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian forces launched a "major attack" on Monday night, targeting 13 regions across the country.
