News Topical, Digital Desk : A powerful 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey's Balıkesir province on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Three buildings damaged in the earlier quake collapsed. Fortunately, no one was killed in the incident.
The epicenter of the earthquake was the city of Sindirgi. It struck at 10:48 p.m. at a depth of 6 kilometers. Several aftershocks were felt. The ground also shook in Istanbul, Bursa, Manisa, and Izmir.
22 people were injured
Three empty buildings and a two-story shop collapsed in Sindirgi, which were already damaged, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said. Twenty-two people were injured in the quake. Balıkesir Governor Ismail Ustaoğlu said there were no fatalities.
Fear has settled in the minds of people
Many people are afraid to return home and are spending the night outside. Meanwhile, rain has started in many cities. Mosques, schools, and sports halls have remained open. Sindirgi was also hit by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake in August, killing one and injuring dozens. Smaller tremors have followed.
