Quetta: Separatist militants killed at least seven labourers from Punjab province in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province.Balochistan Inspector General of Police Moazzam Jah Ansari said the labourers from Multan were shot dead late Saturday night when they were hired for the construction of a house in the Khuda-e-Abadan area of Panjgur town.
Ansari said the workers were in deep sleep when armed militants barged into the under-construction house and opened indiscriminate fire with automatic weapons.
Investigation into the attack continues
The official said one of the workers escaped with injuries while the other was not present at the time of the firing. An investigation into the attack has been launched. Another security official said, "This latest attack appears to be the work of BLA as it has their footprints all over."
PM Shahbaz Sharif sought report from CM
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the attack, sought a report from Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and reiterated the government's resolve to take all possible measures to root out terrorism from the motherland. President Asif Ali Zardari also condemned the attack.
Senior Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) leader Agha Khalid Shah was shot dead and his cousin injured by unidentified assailants in Quetta on Saturday.
Seven barbers were also murdered
This is not the first time banned separatist groups have targeted workers or civilians from other provinces. In May, the banned Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the killing of seven barbers in Gwadar.
