While talking to The Quint, Junaid told that his sister Ayra Khan and he were given a very good upbringing by their mother Reena Dutta. Junaid said that Reena Dutta wanted to keep her children away from the spotlight. Junaid said that during that time social media was not as aggressive as it is today. Mother used to let us take our own decisions.
The film was not made with the intention of hurting
In the same interview, when Malhotra, P Siddharth and Junaid Khan were asked what they thought when members of the Vaishnav sect moved the Gujarat High Court to ban the film, the director replied, "We shot the film three years ago, but the wait for its release was never-ending. The film is about one person's ideology and not about an entire community. We knew we had a good film and we never made it with the intention of hurting anyone."
After watching the film, people realized that there was nothing in it that could hurt anyone.

Talking about Maharaj, the film was earlier scheduled to release on June 14. However, after a lot of uproar, it was released on Netflix on June 21. In this, Junaid Khan has played the role of a social reformer Karsandas Mulji. The film is based on the Maharaj defamation case of the year 1862. Apart from Junaid, the film also stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey and Sharvari in lead roles.
