The story related to Devaki's previous birth is found in the Bhagavata Purana. According to the story, Devaki was a Prisni in her previous birth, while Vasudev was her husband, who was a Prajapati named Sutapa. Both of them performed severe penance to have a child.
Then Lord Vishnu appeared pleased and asked them to ask for a boon. Then both of them said that we want the boon of a son like you. Then Lord Vishnu blessed them and due to this a son named Prishnigarbha was born from Prishni, who is one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

According to the legend, once seeing the motherly nature of Aditi, the mother of the gods, Lord Vishnu expressed his wish to be born as her son.
