A big update has come out regarding the elections in Bangladesh. Nobel Prize winner and head of the interim government Mohammad Yunus has given information about the elections. He said that general elections will be held at the end of next year or in early 2026.
According to reports, there was a lot of pressure on interim government head Mohammad Yunus to fix the date. Mohammad Yunus said that the election dates could be fixed by the end of 2025 or the first half of 2026. He said, I have always stressed that reforms should be made before the election system is set.
On what does the election date depend?
Yunus, who has set up a commission to oversee a number of reforms, said the date for the election would depend on consensus among political parties. "If parties agree to hold the election on an earlier date with minimal reforms like a flawless voter list, the election could be held by the end of November," he said.
Mohammad Yunus spoke in his address on Vijay Diwas
Yunus made the statement during his address to the nation on Vijay Diwas marking Bangladesh's victory in the 1971 Liberation War. Vijay Diwas commemorates December 16, 1971, when General Ameer Abdullah Niazi of the Pakistan Armed Forces and 93,000 soldiers surrendered to the Indian Army and Mukti Bahini in a nine-month-long war for Bangladesh's independence.
Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh and went to India
Talking about former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country and went to India. When thousands of protesters broke into the Prime Minister's palace in Dhaka, 77-year-old Hasina fled by helicopter to neighboring India. Her government was accused of politicizing the courts and the civil service as well as holding one-sided elections to eliminate democratic control over its power.
