Beijing: A senior member of the Chinese National Advisory Body said on Thursday that China would prefer Kamala Harris over Donald Trump as the next US president. He said that during Trump's presidency, bilateral relations between China and the US had deteriorated rapidly, leading to a serious confrontation. So now we would like to see Kamala Harris as the President.

Jia Qingguo, a member of the Standing Committee of the People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the national advisory body, said the Chinese government does not want to make any comment on the US presidential election as it does not want to be accused of interfering in American domestic politics.

The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) is a major component of the state governance system and a unique Chinese political institution.

Chinese people have different views on Harris and Trump

Qingguo told the BBC that the Chinese general public has different opinions about Harris and Trump, but I would prefer Harris because of the bad experience with Trump. Because we do not want that experience again.

Relations between the two countries deteriorated sharply during Trump's presidency and there was serious confrontation between the two countries. From China's point of view, US Vice President Kamala Harris, who has served under President Biden, represents continuity, he said.

Trump spread false information about China- Jiya

Jia, who is also the director of the Institute of Global Cooperation and Understanding at Peking University, said Trump was very emotional during his presidency and spread a lot of misinformation about China.

He said, we also have problems with Biden's administration, but Biden has inherited many tough steps initiated by Trump against China due to domestic politics and perhaps his ideological commitment.

"Under Biden, US policy towards China is more stable, predictable. We are reconnecting with each other. Officials are meeting each other, talking on issues," he added, adding that this is bringing stability to the relationship.

Relations deteriorated during Trump's reign

While pursuing a tough policy toward China, which includes strengthening US policy to challenge Beijing's claims on the disputed South China Sea and Taiwan and restricting China's ambitious move to export electric vehicles, Biden has, however, maintained regular talks with President Xi Jinping to keep tensions under control.

Relations between the top two economies deteriorated sharply under Trump, especially after the COVID-19 outbreak in the Chinese city of Wuhan in 2019 led to a pandemic with devastating effects across the globe.

Trump has alleged that the virus responsible for the pandemic was leaked from a biolab in Wuhan, leading China to launch a massive disinformation campaign to counter Trump's allegations.
