New Delhi. The monsoon which reached Delhi after soaking many states has made a strong impact. The first and just 24 hours of rain broke the record of 88 years. The 228.1 mm rainfall from Thursday morning to 8:30 am on Friday morning was just a little short of breaking the all-time record of 124 years (from 1901 to 2024).
This rain has not only fulfilled the quota of rain from March to June but also one-third of the total monsoon rain. Rain is expected every day till July 4. Heavy rain is expected on Saturday and Sunday.
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert. According to meteorologists, a storm hit the north of New Delhi at around 2.45 am Indian time on Friday. The presence of a major storm already in Uttar Pradesh played an important role in making its impact more effective. That is why there was so much record rainfall.
One person died due to rain in Delhi
Due to rain, the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.7 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal, while on Thursday it was 28.6 degrees. The maximum temperature was recorded at 32.5 degrees Celsius, five degrees below normal. A day before it was 35.4 degrees. The humidity level in the air was recorded at 71 percent out of 100.
The first monsoon rain disrupted life in the capital. One person died and more than 70 people were injured in the accident caused by this.
People in embassies, high commissions and state buildings were seen crying for help. NDRF also had to be called in for rescue and relief operations. Most of the roads remained jammed throughout the day. There was a three to four km long jam on GT Karnal Highway. Vikas Marg from Laxmi Nagar to Lutyens Delhi remained jammed for hours.
13 died in UP, five died in Rajasthan
13 people have died due to rain-related accidents in many districts of Uttar Pradesh. An alert has been issued for heavy rainfall for the next two days. Moderate to heavy rainfall has been occurring in Rajasthan for the last three days. Five people have died in rain-related accidents in three days.
On Friday, five people were injured in Jhunjhunu due to electric current. Monsoon entered Haryana via Rajasthan. Monsoon, which arrived in Bhiwani on Friday morning, rained in many parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab within 10 hours. Monsoon has covered entire Uttarakhand. Yellow alert has been issued regarding landslides in sensitive areas.
Rain became a disaster in Himachal too
The first monsoon rain in Himachal Pradesh's capital Shimla has scared people. Nine vehicles got buried in the debris that came with the water. Water and debris also entered many houses. Landslides have occurred at many places. Heavy rain in Kunihar of Solan has posed a threat to the Gambhar bridge.
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert regarding rain for five days. Due to strong southwesterly winds coming from the Bay of Bengal, widespread rain is expected in the districts of North Bengal for the next five days.
