The Indian-American lawmakers who took oath include Ami Bera, Pramila Jayapal, Ro Khanna, Raja Krishnamurthy, Shri Thanedar and Suhas Subramanian.

'Samosa Caucus' mentioned

Indian-American MP Ami Bera also posted about this. Ami Bera said, "When I first reached the US Parliament 12 years ago, I was the only Indian American member and only the third in American history. Now our coalition has six members. I am excited to welcome more Indian Americans to the Congress House in the coming years."

After this post by Ami Bera, the word 'Samosa Caucus' (what is Samosa Caucus) has started being mentioned once again in American politics. Earlier in the year 2016, this word was also discussed a lot. Then for the first time 5 Indian-origin people were elected to the US Parliament, which also included House of Representatives member Raja Krishnamurthy. Krishnamurthy had coined this word.

What is 'Samosa Caucus'?

In fact, the Indian origin MPs and representative group inside the US Parliament has been called 'Samosa Caucus'. This time 6 MPs are in the lower house of the US. Samosa is an Indian dish and it is famous all over the world, so it has been associated with the MPs of Indian origin.

This time they are part of the Samosa Caucus

  • Ami Bera, elected from California, has taken oath for the seventh consecutive time. Bera is the most senior Indian MP in the US Parliament.
  • Suhas Subramaniam, elected from Virginia, is the newest Indian-origin member of the House of Representatives. After taking the oath of office, Suhas said that he is very excited to work.
  • Mr. Thanedar from Michigan is also part of this caucus.
