US President-elect Donald Trump has shown the door to the LGBTQIA+ community in the US. He is reportedly planning an executive order that will remove all transgender members from the US military. According to reports, transgenders will be medically discharged, which means they will be "ineligible" to serve.
The 78-year-old leader had imposed a similar order during his first term as US President. He had barred transgender people from joining the armed forces but allowed those who were already doing their jobs. Now, according to reports, this time all those transgenders who are currently in service will also be removed.
15,000 transgenders will be affected
The executive order will come on his first day as president on January 20 next year. Nearly 15,000 transgender people are actively serving in the US military. When President Joe Biden lifted Trump's ban on transgenders in the military, about 2,200 service personnel had been diagnosed with gender dysphoria, and many other personnel identified as a different gender than their birth, the report said.
Trump has one core vision: rid the US of so-called "wokeness" and "left-wing ideology". Since his first term, the US president-elect has said he would cut funding to "any school that promotes critical race theory, transgender insanity, and other inappropriate racial, sexual or political content to children". He also wants to keep transgender athletes out of girls' sports and ban classroom lessons on gender identity.
'Women's actions are weakening American security'
Pete Hegseth, Trump's defense pick who will be in charge of the US military, has negative views towards transgender people. He has strongly argued that moves to include women and transgender personnel in the military are undermining US security, The Washington Post reports.
