There is a possibility of severe heat in the coming days in various states of India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted more heat than normal in the coming months. According to the IMD, the temperature in India is likely to remain above normal from April to June. Apart from this, heatwaves may continue for more days in central and eastern India and northwestern plains. Apart from this, the minimum temperature is also likely to remain above normal in most areas.

What did IMD say?

IMD chief Mrityunjay Mahapatra has informed that from April to June, maximum temperatures will be above normal in most parts of India except some parts of western and eastern India. Temperatures are likely to remain normal in some areas of western and eastern India. Along with this, minimum temperatures may also remain above normal in most areas.

These states will be hit by heat wave

IMD chief Mrityunjay Mahapatra said, "From April to June, most parts of North and East India, Central India and the plains of North-West India are likely to experience two to four more days of heat wave than normal." Let us tell you that usually heat wave prevails for four to seven days in India from April to June. According to IMD, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and northern parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are likely to experience more days of heat wave than normal. Some states including East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha are likely to experience 10 to 11 days of heat wave during this period.

Relief can be found in these parts

According to Mahapatra, the minimum temperature will be above normal in most parts of the country. However, the temperature may remain normal or slightly below normal in some places in the northwest and northeast. Let us tell you that last week, the central government had asked the states to check whether their hospitals are ready to deal with heat stroke and heat-related diseases amid rising temperatures?

Last year the heatwave caused havoc

According to IMD, India experienced severe heat last year. 41,789 suspected cases of heat stroke were reported in various parts of the country during the summer. During this period, 143 people died due to heat stroke and hot weather related diseases. According to experts, there is a lack of a better system for collecting data, due to which the number of heat stroke related deaths may have been less recorded. Experts have also said that due to the high number of heat stroke days, there may be an increase of 9 to 10 percent in the demand for electricity during the summer season.

When will it rain?

According to IMD, India is expected to receive normal rainfall from the month of April. This is 88 to 112 percent of the long-term average of 39.2 mm. Normal and above normal rainfall is expected in many areas of northwest, northeast, west-central and peninsular India. IMD has also warned that landslides may occur in parts of Kerala and Karnataka in the Western Ghats and floods may occur in the northeastern states in April.
