The central government has once again given time to the commission probing the violence cases in Manipur to submit the report by May 20, 2025. At least 258 people have died in the violence so far. The inquiry commission was constituted on June 4, 2023 under the chairmanship of former Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court Ajay Lamba.

The commission also includes retired IAS officer Himanshu Shekhar Das and retired IPS officer Alok Prabhakar, who have been given the responsibility to investigate the violence and riots targeting members of various communities. Violence started in Manipur on May 3, 2023. The notification issued on June 4, 2023 said that the commission will have to submit its report to the central government as soon as possible.
Earlier, the Home Ministry had given the Commission time till November 20 to submit the report. Meanwhile, the army and police personnel are jointly searching for 56-year-old Laishram, who went missing from Limakhong camp in Manipur on November 25. Manipur Police had said that it is taking the help of helicopters, drones and army tracker dogs to locate Laishram. Technology is also being used for this. Still, the person is not being traced.
A three-member team has been formed to investigate the murder of three children
Now the Manipur High Court has ordered the formation of a four-member committee to submit a detailed report in this case. The court ordered that the committee will submit a detailed report before the court on the next hearing on December 11. Along with this, the State Commission for Women (MSCW) has formed a three-member team to investigate the killing of three women and three children by militants in Jiribam district last month. The official said that this team includes the chairperson of the commission and two members.
Bus service will be started in major districts amid security
The Manipur government has decided to resume inter-district public transport services from Imphal to the hill districts amid tight security. This will be the administration's second attempt to resume public transport service in 19 months in the state. There have been clashes between the dominant Meitei community of the valley and the Kuki tribes dominant in Churachandpur and some other hill areas.
