In 2020, Shein was banned in India following security and data privacy concerns and it is coming back to India by joining hands with Reliance Industries. Shein India Fast Fashion will be the new platform by the multinational conglomerate (headed by Mukesh Ambani) to relaunch Shein. In late January 2025, the Shein app, operated by Reliance Retail, was introduced on Apple and Google app stores, initially supporting some regions and awaiting nationwide shipping. However, coming close to this re-entry period is when Shein’s US market entry is encountering difficulties due to US President Donald Trump’s new tariffs on Chinese goods introduced that caused a spike in the cost structure for Shein, which could eventually make its way onto consumers’ pockets.
