Sarva Pitru Amavasya has special significance in Sanatan Dharma. Pitru Paksha ends on this day. It is mentioned in Garuda Purana that from Pratipada Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month to Amavasya Tithi, ancestors live on Earth. At the same time, on the day of Sarva Pitru Amavasya Tithi, ancestors depart from Earth. Therefore, on this auspicious occasion, special worship of ancestors is done. Along with this, final tarpan and pinddaan are done.
