Indian-origin Liberal Party leader Ruby Dhalla may take oath as the Prime Minister of Canada. If this happens, she will become the first black woman Prime Minister of Canada.

 

Ruby Dhalla is a self-made businesswoman, doctor and three-time MP. She believes that under her leadership Canada can deal with the challenges better. She has raised the issue of ever-increasing housing cost, crime rate, food prices and tariff threats from the US in the country.

 

Ruby was born into an immigrant family

Ruby was born to immigrant parents in Winnipeg, about 2000 km from Canada's capital Ottawa. She achieved many milestones through her hard work.

He said their lives speak volumes about the opportunities that exist in Canada. He also credited Pierre Trudeau, the father of current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, for opening Canada's doors to immigrants in the 1970s.

 

Told Canada a great country

He said, 'My mother came to Canada in 1972. Whatever I have achieved here is because of hard work and determination, apart from Canada being a great country.'

He emphasised the importance of strengthening India-Canada relations given the large number of Indian immigrants in Canada. He said Canada should engage with other countries, including India, to mitigate the impact of US tariffs.

  • Ruby said she wants to create a competitive economy that supports business, entrepreneurs and youth. She said she wants to restore Canada's reputation on the international stage.
