Bangladesh students continued to protest against reservation in government jobs on Wednesday. Police fired tear gas shells and rubber bullets to disperse the students. Six people were killed and many injured in violent clashes a day earlier.The protesters have called for a nationwide shutdown on Thursday to protest the security forces' action. Asif Mahmood, a key coordinator of the movement, said in a post that all establishments will remain closed except hospitals and emergency services.

Demand to end reservation for these people

The protesters are demanding the abolition of reservation in government jobs for family members of those who fought in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina flatly refused to do so, after which the protests intensified.

Protesting students raised slogans outside the Dhaka University campus on Wednesday. In view of the protests, all universities have been declared closed indefinitely. Dhaka University has also ordered students to vacate the hostels. At the same time, the Prime Minister has announced a judicial inquiry into the killings.
