Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow would respond appropriately if the United States and its NATO allies allow Ukraine to use long-range Western weapons to strike deep inside Russia. Putin said the Defense Ministry was thinking about how to respond to possible long-range attacks on Russian territory.
There could be a variety of responses. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has for months been urging Kiev’s allies to give Ukraine the green light to use Western missiles, including the long-range US ATACMS and the British Storm Shadow, against Russian territory.
'We have to make some decisions for ourselves too'
Putin was asked if NATO countries had listened to Putin's previous statements that such a move would draw countries supplying long-range missiles to Kiev directly into the war. "They haven't told me anything about it, but I hope they have, because of course we will have to make some decisions for ourselves as well," Putin said.
Where will Russia respond?
Putin said it was too early to talk about how, when and where Russia would respond, but if long-range strikes were approved, Moscow would have to respond accordingly. Putin said only personnel from NATO countries could operate the specific equipment Ukraine wanted, as Kiev did not have the requisite specialists.
Russia attacked Kiev with a drone
Ukraine said on Sunday that Russia attacked Kiev with drones for the second consecutive night. The Ukrainian army said that the air defense system destroyed 41 out of 80 drones. No losses have been reported. At the same time, Ukraine also attacked Russia with drones. Russia says that 51 drones were shot down. A woman has been injured in the attack.
