The BRICS family, which started in 2009, is continuously growing. Now the world's largest Muslim country Indonesia has got entry in it. Brazil announced this on Monday.
But now Pakistan's restlessness has increased due to Indonesia's entry. Pakistan itself has been desperate to join BRICS for a long time. For this, it has stood at China's door with a bowl in its hand many times.
Indonesia became the 11th country
Brazil has become the 11th country to participate in BRICS. Earlier, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates were made full members of BRICS. Indonesia's proposal to join BRICS was approved during the conference held in Johannesburg in 2023.
Brazil's Foreign Ministry said in a statement, "The Brazilian government welcomes Indonesia's entry into BRICS. As Southeast Asia's largest economy and populous country, Indonesia supports reform of global institutions along with other BRICS members."
Brazil is presiding
- Brazil is chairing BRICS this year. The BRICS summit is to be held in July this year. This summit will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This time the theme of BRICS is Global South. It aims to develop payment gateways to facilitate trade between member countries.
- When the BRICS summit was held in Russia in November, discussions were held on promoting non-dollar transactions and strengthening the local currency. But America was enraged over this. Donald Trump threatened to impose 100 percent tariff on member countries.
How did BRICS start?
BRICS was founded in 2009 by Brazil, China, Russia and India. Its first summit was held in Yekaterinburg, Russia. In 2010, at a meeting of foreign ministers of member countries in New York, an agreement was reached to include South Africa as well.
In 2011, South Africa participated in the BRICS summit held in Sanya. In 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and UAE were included in it. The popularity of BRICS is constantly increasing. With the help of China, Pakistan also wants to join it, but it is not able to do so.
