The new Waqf law has come into force from today. The central government has also issued a notification regarding this. Let us tell you that the Waqf Amendment Bill was first introduced in the Lok Sabha and then in the Rajya Sabha. After its passing from both places, President Draupadi Murmu signed this bill, after which it became a law. Today, the central government has issued a notification informing that this law has come into force in the entire country from today (April 8). On the other hand, a ruckus has also started regarding this. Most of the Muslim organizations of the country are continuously protesting against the Waqf law.

Law made after President's approval

Regarding this bill, the government claimed that it would greatly help in improving the condition of the poor and Pasmanda Muslims and the women of this community. It was passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, in which 288 members supported it and 232 members opposed it. At the same time, strong objections were expressed by the opposition parties, who termed the bill as 'anti-Muslim' and 'unconstitutional', while the government responded that this 'historic reform' would benefit the minority community. The Rajya Sabha approved the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025, which has many important provisions including increasing transparency in the Waqf Board, by 128 votes against 95 after a long discussion. After this, it became a law after the President's approval.

Muslim organizations are protesting

Congress MP Mohammad Javed and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday challenged the validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Supreme Court, saying it violates constitutional provisions. Javed's petition alleged that the bill has provisions for imposing "arbitrary restrictions" on waqf properties and their management, which will undermine the religious autonomy of the Muslim community. The petition, filed through advocate Anas Tanvir, said the bill discriminates against the Muslim community as it "imposes restrictions which do not exist in other religious endowments." Owaisi's petition was filed by advocate Lazfir Ahmed.
