Beirut: The Israeli army has confirmed the death of Hashem Safieddine, the successor of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah. The Israeli army has revealed this 19 days after the death of Hashem Safieddine. The Israeli army said that on October 4, Hashem Safieddine was killed along with Hussein Ali Hazima, the head of Hezbollah's intelligence department. Hashem Safieddine was the head of Hezbollah's executive council and was considered to be Nasrallah's successor.

On October 4, the Israeli army attacked Hezbollah's underground intelligence headquarters in Dahiya, Lebanon. At that time, a total of 25 people, including Hashem Safieddin, were present in the headquarters. However, Hezbollah has not yet confirmed the death. It is important to mention here that Hashem Safieddin was Nasrallah's cousin.

Who was Hashem Safieddin?

On September 27, Israel killed Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike. Since then, Hashem Safieddin, along with his deputy general secretary Naeem Qasim, has been opening a front against Israel.

Hashem Safieddin was part of Hezbollah's Jihad Council. This council is responsible for military operations. Safieddin's death is a big blow to Hezbollah. Israel has already killed several commanders of the extremist group.

Hashem Safieddin was not as famous in Israel as Hassan Nasrallah. However, he was on Israel's radar for a long time. For the past one year, Safieddin was giving speeches against Israel. He also participated enthusiastically in funerals and other events. He openly supported Hamas.

Like Nasrallah, Safieddine wore a black turban, a symbol of his descent from the Prophet Muhammad. He was born in Lebanon's Shia-dominated south. Safieddine studied in madrassas in Qom, Iran, before returning to Lebanon in the 1990s.

Hashem Safieddin's son Rida is married to the daughter of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. Qasem Soleimani was the head of the Quds Force of Iran's Revolutionary Guards. Soleimani was killed in a US drone attack in Iraq's capital Baghdad in 2020.

Hashem Safieddin's brother Abdullah is posted as Hezbollah's representative in Iran's capital Tehran. The US declared Hashem Safieddin a terrorist in 2017.
