News Topical, Digital Desk : Artificial Intelligence may have made our lives easier. But it also has many disadvantages. There are many people in the world who work by taking advice from ChatGpt or Gemini. It is not at all true that people get the wrong answer every time, but in many cases, especially in health related matters, you should consult a doctor only. Recently, such a case has come to light, when a young man listened to ChatGpt and reached the ICU himself.

This case has been published in a journal named Annals of Internal Medicine Clinical Cases (AIMCC). Doctors from Washington University say that a person decided to change his diet. He was troubled by table salt (sodium chloride) and wanted to completely remove chloride from his diet. He consulted ChatGPT. The option that AI gave him was sodium bromide.

Salt removed from food

He  stopped eating salt  and started adding sodium bromide to his food. After about three months, his condition worsened. He was admitted to the ICU. He started having mental problems like confusion and changes in his behavior. Investigations revealed that this was bromism, a disease caused by excessive bromide.

The young man was afraid of even drinking water

In the hospital he was thirsty but afraid to drink water. Then he started having hallucinations and tried to escape from the ward. This forced him to be kept under the observation of brain doctors and given antipsychotic medication as well as water-electrolyte treatment. Slowly his mental condition improved and he said that he was taking advice from ChatGPT.

AI can make many mistakes

Apart from this, many other symptoms were visible in him. Such as acne, redness on the skin (possibly allergy), fatigue, insomnia and constant thirst, all these are symptoms of bromide poisoning. Researchers said that this case shows that the use of AI can sometimes lead to serious health problems that can be prevented. They warned that ChatGPT and other AI tools can make many mistakes.

What are its main reasons?

Bromide accumulates in our body when we take bromide-containing medicines in large quantities or for a long time. Apart from this, it can happen through contaminated water or food. Coming in contact with chemicals while working in factories also increases the risk. The doctor said that if a person is taking any medicine for a long time without the advice of an expert, then he may be at risk, because some Ayurvedic and unlicensed medicines may also contain bromide.

What are its symptoms?

feeling tired

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Alzheimer's
  • Difficulty in speaking
  • muscle tremors
  • respiratory distress
  • unconsciousness or coma

How to prevent and treat?

  • Do not take any medicine for a long time without doctor's advice.
  • If you work in a factory, wear the proper safety equipment.
  • If you experience any of the symptoms mentioned above, contact your doctor immediately.
