Six people were killed and many injured when an under-construction building collapsed in Bangkok, Myanmar. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 7.7 and was followed by several aftershocks, one of which had a magnitude of 6.4. Earthquake tremors were felt in Myanmar on Saturday as well.

Earthquake also caused devastation in Thailand

The effect of this earthquake was also felt in Thailand. A 33-storey building under construction in Bangkok collapsed due to the earthquake. Due to the collapse of the building, a lot of dust and debris spread in the surrounding area. People were seen running in Bangkok and relief work is going on.

 

Beginning of aid and relief efforts

The Myanmar government has appealed for blood donations for relief efforts and has accepted foreign aid. China and Russia have sent rescue teams, while the United Nations has allocated $5 million for emergency relief efforts.

 

India sent relief materials

India has sent 15 tonnes of relief material to help Myanmar. Indian Air Force's C-130J Super Hercules aircraft left for Myanmar with relief material from Hindon Air Force Station.
