Jammu & Kashmir News: Jammu Police has arrested a policeman from its own department on charges of changing the ATM cards of elderly people and withdrawing money from their accounts. Two lakh rupees, five ATM cards and a bike have also been recovered from the accused.
Jammu Police has arrested a police constable on charges of helping elderly people withdraw money from about half a dozen ATMs in the city, changing their ATM cards and then withdrawing money from their accounts. The name of the accused policeman is Pradeep Singh Thakur who is a resident of Doda. Along with Pradeep, the police has also arrested people working at a petrol pump who used to help the accused policeman in this work.
According to the police, a few days ago they received a complaint that when the complainant went to withdraw money from the ATM, he faced difficulty in withdrawing money, after which a person standing outside the ATM offered him help. The complainant said that after reaching home he came to know that the ATM which was cut off was not his. Similar complaints were received by Jammu Police from other police stations as well.
On the basis of these complaints, when the police checked the CCTV camera installed near the ATM, it was found that all the ATM cards that were changed were changed from ATMs located near petrol pumps. On the basis of this CCTV footage, the police reached the accused policeman and arrested him.
After this incident, the police has issued an advisory, in which it was said that while withdrawing money from the ATM card, ensure that no one is standing inside the cabin. Along with this, the police has also said that no person should tell his ATM PIN to anyone and never write his ATM PIN on the ATM card.
