Imphal. The ongoing violence in Manipur is not stopping. The Meitei and Kuki communities of the state demanded the Centre to pay attention to Manipur when the Parliament session began. Women took out massive peaceful protests on the streets. During this time, both sides also called for an end to the violence that has been going on for a year.

Women took out a silent march

Hundreds of women took out a peaceful silent march in the capital Imphal with placards in their hands. The placards demanded the central government to withdraw the central forces. During this, the women alleged that no concrete steps have been taken to stop the violence in the state. They said that violence has been going on in Manipur for more than a year and now this issue should be discussed in Parliament. The women have also demanded an early solution to the violence going on in the state.

Kuki leaders demanded a separate administration

During the protest, hundreds of people gathered to listen to the march and speeches of MLAs and civil society leaders. During this, they requested the Center to create a separate administration or union territory by combining all the Kuki-dominated areas in Manipur. It is known that there are 10 Kuki MLAs in the 10-member assembly of Manipur, which also includes many BJP MLAs.

Demand for creation of buffer zone in Jiribam district

During the demonstration, the Kuki organizations also requested the central government to create a buffer zone in the neighboring Jiribam district. Recently, clashes were seen between the Meitei community and the Hmar tribe in Jiribam district. It is known that more than 220 people have died so far in the ongoing violence in Manipur, while about fifty thousand people have faced internal displacement.
