New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has reiterated India's stand in the context of the recent turbulent events in the world that the current global challenges can be faced only in the spirit of pluralism and cooperation.
Birla, while addressing the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, said that there is a great need for extensive dialogue and cooperation between legislative houses in the field of science, technology and innovation. Through a platform like IPU, parliaments around the world will be able to pave the way for inclusive development through shared action plans and joint efforts. He particularly emphasized that all parliaments should work together to ensure fair and equitable distribution of the benefits of science and technology.
Om Birla mentioned PM Modi's One Grid initiative
In fact, the topic of discussion in this meeting is the use of science, technology and innovation for a peaceful and secure future. Regarding climate change and energy security, Birla mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's One Sun, One World, One Grid initiative. He said that in the last decade, India's energy capacity has increased from 76 gigawatts to 203 gigawatts.
Digitalization of financial services has transformed the services
Birla told the gathering that maximum use of green technology has been ensured in the construction of the new Parliament building. Birla mentioned the power of using technology for the benefit of the common man and said that digitization of financial services through the JAM triangle of Jan Dhan, Aadhar and mobile has transformed the services.
