In five constituencies of Madhya Pradesh, MLAs were elected as MPs in the Lok Sabha elections, necessitating by-elections. These are Congress MLA Brijendra Ola from Jhunjhunu, Congress MLA Harish Chandra Meena from Dausa, Rashtriya Loktantrik Party MLA Hanuman Beniwal from Khinsiwar and Bharat Adivasi Party's Rajkumar Roat from Chaurasi.

Announcement of the schedule for by-elections in 15 states

At the conference, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced the schedule for by-elections in 48 assembly constituencies and two parliamentary constituencies in 15 states.

Delimitation of constituencies took place in August last year

By-elections in five assembly constituencies in Assam are going to be held as per the pre-delimitation of constituencies. Delimitation of constituencies in Assam was done in August last year and the Lok Sabha elections were held as per the delimited constituencies. Since the current 15th Assam Legislative Assembly has not been dissolved, the by-elections will be held as per the pre-delimited areas of the five assembly constituencies.

The by-election will be held in five assembly constituencies Dholai, Sidli, Bongaigaon, Behali and Samaguri. The by-election has become necessary as the MLAs of the five constituencies have been elected as Members of Parliament in the recently held elections for the 18th Lok Sabha.

How will the elections be held?

The Election Commission of India has asked the CEO Assam to prepare a draft photo voter list and a final photo voter list for the five assembly constituencies. The elections will now be held as per the 2021 assembly election schedule.
