Nairobi. Kenyan President William Ruto stepped down on Wednesday after violent protests against the increase in tax burden in Kenya. In a televised address to the nation, the President said he would not sign the Finance Bill. The Finance Bill would be withdrawn.

Government to begin dialogue with Kenyan youth

He said that he will now start talking to the youth of Kenya and work on austerity to bridge the gap between income and expenditure in the country. The Finance Bill passed by the Parliament had proposed to increase taxes. Thousands of people, angry over the increase in tax burden in the Finance Bill, entered the Parliament premises on Tuesday.

23 people died in the violence

Five protesters were killed and dozens injured in police firing on the protesters. The protesters set fire to parts of the Parliament building. A total of 23 people were killed and many injured in violent clashes between police and protesters across the country. The protesters had threatened to intensify the protests.
