New Delhi: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board has expressed its objections to the stand of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Amendment Bill and urged the committee to patiently listen to all the stakeholders. The board said that it should not rush the process for its vested interests and should not file its report in a hurry.
In a detailed statement, Personal Law Board spokesperson Dr SQR Ilyas claimed that the JPC was violating rules in examining the Wakf Bill and that dates were being changed to deny established Muslim organisations the opportunity to present. The board said that the JPC should take suggestions or opinions only from relevant individuals or organisations who are directly connected with Wakf, but unfortunately it is taking opinions from central ministries, ASI, RSS-backed organisations.
The board further said that when the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024 was introduced in Parliament, there was a lot of opposition, which is why it was sent to the JPC. That is why the objections of the Muslim Personal Law Board and credible Muslim organizations should be taken seriously and people and organizations who are not connected with the matters of Waqf should be avoided.
How many members are there in JPC?
Many stakeholders have already sought permission to present their case before the JPC, a date for calling them can also be fixed. The JPC has a total of 31 members including 21 Lok Sabha and 10 Rajya Sabha MPs.
