Israel Air Strike on Northern Gaza: At least 14 Palestinians were killed in Israeli military strikes in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, most of them in the northern city of Beit Lahiya, doctors said. At the same time, the Israeli army has issued new evacuation orders in the southern part of the small territory.
Medics said eight people were killed in the attacks in Beit Lahiya, while four others were killed elsewhere in Gaza city.
Israel carried out air strikes
Doctors say two people were later killed and others injured in Israeli air strikes on Jabalia, the largest of Gaza's eight historic refugee camps in the northern Gaza Strip. Israeli forces have been conducting operations in Jabalia and the towns of Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun since October.
The Israeli military has said its forces have killed hundreds of militants in three locations since the operation began. Hamas, the militant Palestinian group that rules Gaza, and the Islamic Jihad armed wing have said their fighters killed several Israeli soldiers in ambushes during the same period.
Palestinians accuse Israel of
Palestinians have accused the Israeli military of trying to create a buffer zone along the northern edge of Gaza by forcibly evacuating people and bombing. However, the army has denied this. The Israeli army says it has returned to prevent Hamas fighters from regrouping in the area from which it had previously removed them.
The Palestinian Civil Emergency Service said its operations in Jabalia, Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanun have been halted for almost four weeks now because of Israeli attacks on their teams and a lack of fuel. On Tuesday, the service said 13 of its 27 vehicles in the central and southern Gaza Strip were also out of operation due to a lack of fuel. It said 88 members of the Civil Emergency Service have been killed, 304 wounded and 21 detained by Israel since the war began.
Israel orders evacuation of the city of Younis
The Israeli army on Tuesday issued evacuation orders to residents of the northern districts of the city of Khan Younis, located in the south of the Gaza Strip, citing rocket fire by militants from those areas. The orders forced families to flee in a hurry, mostly before dawn, in a western direction. "For your own safety, you should immediately evacuate the area and move to a humanitarian zone," the army said in a statement on X.
What did the United Nations officials say?
Palestinian and UN officials say there are no safe zones in the territory. Most of Gaza's 2.3 million people are internally displaced, with some displaced up to 10 times since the war began last year.
The struggle has been going on for a year
Israel launched its campaign in the densely populated Palestinian territory on October 7, 2023, after Hamas-led fighters attacked Israeli communities, killing 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages, according to Israeli figures. Israel's military campaign killed more than 44,400 Palestinians, wounded many others and reduced much of the area to rubble.
