At least 322 children have been killed and 609 injured in the Palestinian territory in the last 10 days in Israel's new attack in Gaza. The United Nations Children's Agency said in a statement that these figures include children who were killed or injured in an attack on the surgical department of Al Nasr Hospital in southern Gaza on March 23.

UNICEF said most of these children have been displaced and are taking shelter in makeshift tents or damaged homes.

Israel dropped bombs on Gaza

Israel resumed intensive bombardment of Gaza on 18 March and then launched a new ground assault, ending a nearly two-month ceasefire in the war with Hamas.

After nearly 18 months of war, more than 15,000 children have reportedly been killed, over 34,000 injured and nearly one million children have been repeatedly displaced and denied basic services, the UNICEF statement said.

UNICEF removed this ban

UNICEF announced the cessation of hostilities and the lifting of the ban on humanitarian aid from Israel to Gaza, which had been in place since 2 March.

It also said that sick or injured children should be evacuated for medical help. "Lack of food, safe water, shelter and medical care is becoming increasingly prevalent. Without these essential supplies, malnutrition, diseases and other preventable conditions are likely to increase, leading to a rise in preventable child mortality," UNICEF said.
