New Delhi: A film was made in the 80s, which took 8 years to complete. The great director of the cinema world was making it. The cast was also adorned with big stars. The makers spent 10 crores to present it on a grand level. A lot of loan had to be taken and people also lent, even the film's team lent money and there was a sure guarantee that all the loan would be repaid, but what happened after the release has been recorded in history.

This film was the most popular film Razia Sultan released in 1983. It had Hema Malini, Parveen Babi and Dharmendra in the lead roles. The story of the India period biographical film was based on Razia Sultan, the first female ruler of the Delhi Sultanate. Kamal Amrohi started preparing for this film immediately after the Pakeezah movie.

India's most expensive film

Kamal Amrohi put in a lot of effort in making this film. He even went to Hollywood for special effects. He spent Rs 10 crores in making this movie, due to which it became the most expensive film of India at that time. Kamal invested all his money in the film. He took a lot of loans from the industry, even borrowed money from the crew members and assured them that he would return the money after making a profit.

The film was a super flop

But Razia Sultan proved to be a flop at the box office. According to reports, this period drama did a business of just Rs 2 crore. According to IMDb, after the flop of this film, the entire industry was in debt for some time. Somehow the investors recovered their money, but Kamal Amrohi became bankrupt. He paid the crew members from his own pocket.

Reasons behind Razia Sultan's failure

Difficult Urdu words were used in Razia Sultan , which were beyond the understanding of most of the audience. Due to this, the audience was avoiding watching the film. Not only this, a song in the film, Khwab Bankar Koi Aayega, was the most controversial song of that time. The romance of Hema Malini and Parveen Babi was shown in this song. After watching the song, it was believed that there was a kissing scene between the two. Due to this, there was a lot of uproar.

After the failure of Razia Sultan, Kamal Amrohi was going to make two films Majnoon and Bahadur Shah Zafar, but for some reason these films could not be made and in 1993 Kamal said goodbye to this world.
