About 47.8 lakh foreign tourists visited the country during January-June this year. According to the data of the Ministry of Tourism, the highest number of tourists came from Bangladesh and America. This information has been received from the official data released on Friday on the occasion of World Tourism Day. However, the number of tourists coming to the country is still behind the level before the Kovid epidemic. 7,06,045 foreign tourists came in June this year, while 6,48,008 foreign tourists came in June 2023 and 7,26,446 foreign tourists came in June 2019. This number is nine percent more than 2023 while 9.8 percent less than 2019.

The figure is lower than before Covid

The ministry said, “During the first half of this year (January-June), 47,78,374 foreign tourists arrived as compared to 43,80,239 in the same period last year and 52,96,025 in the same period of 2019 before the Covid pandemic. This year's figure is 9.1 percent higher than 2023 while it is 9.8 percent less than 2019.

Most tourists came from Bangladesh

According to the data, Bangladesh accounted for the highest number of foreign tourists in India in the first half of 2024, at 21.55 per cent. This was followed by 17.56 per cent tourists from the US, 9.82 per cent from the UK, 4.5 per cent from Canada and 4.32 per cent from Australia.
