It is composed of 31 member countries, elected from the General Assembly, the Security Council and the Economic and Social Council. Countries that make the top financial and military contributions to the United Nations system are its members.
India is the biggest contributor
India is one of the largest contributors of forces to UN peacekeeping forces. Currently, around 6,000 Indian Army and Police personnel are deployed in UN missions in the Central African Republic, Cyprus, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lebanon, the Middle East, Somalia, South Sudan and Western Sahara.
