Why is eating too much fruit harmful?
We all know that eating different types of fruits provides different benefits. These fruits are rich in vitamins, minerals, potassium, antioxidant properties and fiber. However, eating them in large quantities can be harmful. Actually, natural sugar is found in fruits and some fruits also have high calories. In such a situation, eating too much fruit can cause the following problems-
Weight Gain and Diabetes
Most fruits contain very high amounts of fructose. High fructose intake can lead to insulin resistance, obesity and diabetes . Also, eating too much fruit on a regular basis can lead to fat storage, which can cause glucose intolerance and interfere with normal body function. Apart from this, it also increases blood pressure and uric acid levels.
Digestive problems
Excessive fructose intake often causes irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Some symptoms of IBS include abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion, constipation, and diarrhea. Also, eating too many fruits can cause indigestion due to the high fiber content in some fruits.
Disadvantages of fruit diet
Generally, a fruit diet is considered beneficial for health. However, it can also be harmful because only raw fruits are eaten in it. In this diet, whole grains, carbs etc. are avoided and only some vegetables, dry fruits and nuts are eaten. Due to this, there is a lack of essential nutrients like protein, omega 3, vitamin B, calcium and iron in the fruit diet. Also, this diet is very unhealthy for diabetes, insulin resistance or PCOD and PCOS.
