News Topical, Digital Desk : While other parties are still deliberating on the list of probable candidates for the by-elections to two vacant assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP has announced its candidates for the two seats of Budgam and Nagrota. The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) has approved the list of candidates for the 2025 assembly by-elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a list released by the BJP, the party's New Delhi-based Central Election Committee has approved the names of Aga Syed Mohsin for the Budgam Assembly constituency (No. 27) and Devyani Rana for the Nagrota Assembly constituency (No. 77) in Jammu and Kashmir. This announcement marks the BJP's formal entry into the fray for the Jammu and Kashmir by-elections, where both seats are expected to be closely contested.
All eyes are on the National Conference.
With the alliance with Congress virtually broken for the Rajya Sabha elections, all eyes are on the National Conference. Congress is unlikely to join any alliance, so the National Conference may contest both seats.
A Congress leader said, "The Congress party will meet in a few days to take a decision on the issue, as many party leaders want to contest both Budgam and Nagrota seats. After the NC's refusal to give a reserved seat to the Congress in the Rajya Sabha elections, the alliance with the NC is almost over."
The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is expected to announce its candidates for both Budgam and Nagrota seats on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. The PDP will field Aga Muntazir Mehdi from Budgam, while the final name for the Nagrota seat has not yet been finalized.
Elections will be held on November 11
However, the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) on Saturday ( October 11 ) announced former DDC chairman Nazir Ahmad Khan as its candidate for the Budgam by-election. The Budgam seat was vacated by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah after he won the Budgam and Ganderbal assembly seats last year, while the Nagrota seat fell vacant following the death of BJP leader Devinder Singh Rana. Elections for the Budgam and Nagrota assembly constituencies will be held on November 11.
