Delhi High Court has made a big decision for the commissioning of women to higher posts in the army through Combined Defense Services (CDS). The court has asked the Union Defense Ministry to decide in this regard within eight weeks. A petition regarding this has been filed in the Delhi High Court. The petition demanded that women should be allowed to join the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force through the CDS exam. Delhi High Court has given this instruction.
Advocate Kush Kalra had filed a petition in this regard, which was also disposed of with the decision. Kush Kalra had filed the petition on December 22, 2023. When the court disposed of it, he demanded that the petition be kept pending until the Central Government decides on it, but the court said, there is no need for this. Let the central government take the decision.
The lawyer appearing in the court on behalf of the petitioner said that there should be no discrimination against women in appointments through CDS in the army. However, the court said that the Defense Ministry has the right to decide in this regard, and give them time. Through CDS examinations, one gets a direct appointment to the post of officer in all three armies of India – Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Candidates who clear the CDS exam have to undergo cadet training.
Under this, Rs 56,100 per month is given as a stipend based on level 10 during training only. Women can also appear for this examination, but if selected, they can only join the Officers Training Academy (OTA). They cannot directly join the Army, Navy, or Air Service,e. This examination is held twice a year.
