New Delhi. The situation has worsened in many areas of the country due to continuous rain. The Char Dham Yatra was postponed on Sunday in view of the heavy rain alert in Uttarakhand. If the weather improves, the Yatra will begin on Monday. Life in Rajasthan has been disrupted due to the rain for the last five days. Two brothers died in Hanumangarh due to the collapse of the roof of a house amid heavy rain.
Many rivers are in spate in UP and Bihar
Due to continuous rain, rivers in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have started overflowing, which has created the danger of flood. Lightning killed 10 people in Bihar and 5 people died in rain-related accidents in UP. Heavy rain has occurred in many districts of Haryana and Punjab. Due to heavy rain for the last one week in Uttarakhand, landslides are taking place in the mountainous regions, due to which connecting roads are getting blocked. The heavy rain that was going on for the last six days in Garhwal division stopped on Sunday, due to which some relief was felt. The water level of other rivers including Ganga has also decreased, due to which production in hydro power projects remained smooth.
Nearly 30 connecting roads have been opened in the division. Rain continues in the plains of the state. Heavy rainfall is also occurring in Kumaon division. Two routes connecting the China border in Pithoragarh district are still closed. Gunji bridge on Dharchula-Tawaghat road is in danger. BRO is trying to save the bridge. The water level of Kali river has reached close to the danger mark. Tanakpur-Pithoragarh highway in Champawat district is closed at two places due to debris. There is difficulty in opening them due to continuous rainfall.
The water level of the lake increased in Nainital
The water level of Nainital lake is constantly rising. The Badrinath highway is closed near Joshimath since 4 am, due to which 2500 pilgrims who had come to visit Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib are stranded at Dhams and halts. Now about 190 routes are closed in the state. In Himachal Pradesh, warning has been issued of flood in rivers and streams in Shimla, Kangra and Chamba. 41 roads in the state are closed for traffic.
Heavy rain warning in Bihar
There is a forecast of sporadic and heavy rain in Bihar on Monday as well. 10 people died due to lightning. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed condolences and directed to give an ex-gratia grant of four lakh rupees to the dependents of the deceased. Rivers have started overflowing due to continuous rain in the state. About 60 people of Bagaha of West Champaran district remained stranded in Diara overnight due to sudden rise in water level of Gandak.
On Sunday, the SDRF team rescued 40 people safely by evening. 20 workers will be brought back on Monday. Bagmati and Lalbakeya rivers are overflowing in Motihari. Due to the rising water level in Kosi, water has entered villages in many districts. Mahananda and Kanakayi rivers passing through Kishanganj are passing close to the danger mark. The water level of Mahananda has increased in Katihar. Flood like situation has arisen in Lakhimpur Kheri, Balrampur, Kushinagar and Shravasti districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Several people died in different incidents
In Sitapur, two people died in incidents of roof and railing collapse, while in Balrampur two people including a child died due to drowning in flood water. In Jamunaha tehsil area of Shravasti, 11 farmers who were trapped in flood while guarding their fields were rescued safely after eight hours of hard work. Half a dozen of them are women. Due to torrential rains in Nepal, the water level in the Narayani river rose 16 cm above the danger mark. Due to this, flood water entered five villages of Kushinagar district. The SDRF team rescued 101 people from the villages on Sunday. Heavy rain is forecast in many districts on Monday.
