US New Orleans Attack A  terrorist attack took place in the US city of New Orleans in the early hours of Wednesday. A driver rammed his pickup truck into people celebrating New Year and also opened fire on them. 15 people died in the attack, while more than 35 people were injured.

The attacking truck driver was killed by the police in an encounter. He has been identified as Shamsuddin Jabbar, a 42-year-old American citizen from Texas. The Federal Investigation Agency FBI is investigating the case as a terrorist incident. The agency has found an Islamic State (IS) flag from the truck and is investigating Jabbar's connection with this terrorist organization. 

 

The attacker was a soldier of the US Army

The terrorist driving the pickup truck with the flag of the Islamic State group was a former soldier of the US Army. Many weapons have also been found in the police truck. Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick said that this person wanted to run the truck over as many people as possible. He was intent on killing and harming people. 

 

The incident happened around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday during New Year's Eve celebrations at the intersection of Canal and Bourbon streets, a historic tourist destination in the city's French Quarter that draws large crowds for its music and bars.

 

Blood-soaked bodies and body parts scattered everywhere

Kirkpatrick said the driver fired at police as he drove through the barricades and even after the truck crashed, wounding two police officers. The injured police officers are in stable condition. According to NOLA Ready, the city's emergency preparedness department, the injured have been admitted to five different hospitals.

 

Witnesses reported that bloodied bodies, broken bones and limbs were scattered all over the scene. Investigators said that possible explosive devices were also found in the truck and in the French Quarter. New Orleans City Council President Helena Moreno said that other suspects may also be involved in this incident, they are being traced.

 

The truck driver was in military uniform. The FBI has also suspected the involvement of more people in the incident and has appealed to the public for help in finding them.
