Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived on a three-day visit to Sri Lanka after his visit to Thailand. PM Modi was given a grand welcome in Sri Lanka's capital Colombo. PM Modi was formally welcomed in Sri Lanka on Saturday morning and a guard of honor was given in his honor. Earlier on Friday evening, when PM Modi reached Sri Lanka, five ministers of the Sri Lankan government had come to receive him. A large number of people from the Indian community were also present at the airport and they were constantly chanting Modi-Modi slogans.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given a rousing welcome at Colombo's Independence Square on Friday. He also met Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. This three-day visit is aimed at strengthening regional relations and enhancing development cooperation.
Official reception and cultural programs
Prime Minister Modi was given a warm welcome on his arrival in Sri Lanka. He also got to see a puppet dance performance while shaking hands with members of the Indian community at the hotel. This welcome reflects the strong cultural and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Prime Minister Modi's visit to Colombo follows his visit to Thailand, where he held a bilateral meeting with Thai Prime Minister Patongthorn Shinawatra and attended the BIMSTEC summit.
Reception by Sri Lankan Ministers
Despite the rain, six high-level Sri Lankan ministers arrived at the airport to welcome Prime Minister Modi. These included Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, Health and Mass Communication Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, Labour Minister Anil Jayantha, Fisheries Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekhar, Women and Child Welfare Minister Saroja Paulraj and Science and Technology Minister Krishantha Abeysena.
