Kanpur. Uttar Pradesh government has arranged Rs. 10 crore in this year's budget for the establishment of IIT's Gangwal School of Medical Science and Technology. Postgraduate academic degrees and biomedical research work will be completed in the institute. In the second phase, a 500-bed super specialty hospital will be built. Corporate companies have also extended their support for the establishment of this hospital.
The foundation of Gangwal School was laid in the institute with the help of Rs 100 crore received from IIT alumnus and Indigo Airlines co-founder Rakesh Gangwal. Under this, a 500-bed super specialty hospital, academic block, residential complex and hostel and service block are to be established in an area of 8.10 lakh square feet.

The aim is also to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) to pursue research activities in futuristic medicine. In the second phase, other goals including increasing the hospital's capacity to 1000 beds, setting up clinical departments and centres, expanding research areas, paramedical subjects, alternative medicine etc. will be achieved.
Professor Dr. Sandeep Verma, in-charge of Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology, said that activities are underway towards the establishment of a 500-bed super specialty hospital. The work will progress rapidly after getting the permission of the state government.
